Background
I have more than 15 years of diverse professional experience as a performer, composer, and educator. I also hold a Bachelor's degree in Music Composition and a Master's Degree in Teaching, giving me a strong educational foundation for my professional roles. I've successfully held positions in college-level instruction, private lessons, and K-12 public schools, adapting my approach to suit diverse learning environments for all ages and backgrounds.
Teaching Philosophy
As a teacher, my primary goal is to give my students the tools they need for self-directed learning, enabling them to explore and define their unique musical voices. Due to my own diverse performance background, I am also passionate about exposing students to a variety of music styles and fostering their own unique musical interests. My objective in teaching is always to empower students to explore what is fulfilling for them.
Performance Experience
My performance experience spans many genres and styles across my 15+ years as a music professional. I have been a violinist with Soundstage Rhythm Orchestra, Classical Festival Symphony Orchestra, and Marylhurst Symphony Orchestra. I founded and played with my own musical project, Ars Nova in 2018. I was also a violinist with Chervona, a Portland-based swing/punk band, as well as being a guest musician with groups such as Three-Legged Torso, Three for Silver, and Ritimegotic. Currently I am compiling recordings of my own original compositions into an LP in collaboration with members of the Oregon Symphony.
